Well, after paying for a domain name and having a “Hello World” post up for the last couple years, I’ve decided to actually do something with this site. My name is Sandi. I’m a late 40’s mother and grandma who hasn’t yet decided what I want to do if and when I grow up. In the meantime, I practice nursing (someday I’ll get it right) as a pediatric homecare LPN, assist independent authors in publishing their books, do medical missions in Africa, and chase disasters as a disaster housing inspector under contract to FEMA.
It has been said that it is usually a major event in one’s life that motivates a person to major change. That’s certainly true in my case…2-1/2 years worth of major events. They started out with my oldest child being arrested, convicted and sentenced to 100-years in prison (80-years of which are suspended) starting in April of 2010. The entire situation left myself and the rest of my family reeling from the shockwaves caused by his actions. Add to that my mom being diagnosed with Stage 4 lung cancer, my own health issues with diabetes and hypertension, a short but intense engagement to be married and the pressure of continuing financial struggles…it’s been a challenging, albeit educational, time of life . I remind myself regularly that there are others who have it far worse…boy do I feel bad for them! 🙂
At any rate, after prayer, meditation and review of various options I have drawn upon the coaching skills I’d studied to help others…and I’m taking myself on as a client. I’ve developed a “roadmap” that will guide me in making some positive changes to my life and situation. One of the biggest changes will be in the area of my living situation. I’m trading apartment living for an RV-lifestyle. Now, before anyone gets too upset, I’m not planning on taking off and leaving the area at this time. I’m still going to be in the general Roanoke area…close enough to be at church on Sundays and at work on my regularly scheduled shifts. However one of the many benefits of that change will be the housing cost savings compared to what I’m paying for rent, electric and internet right now.
So, my ex-husband found a 25-foot Winnebago Chieftain for me. It’s one of those deals you can’t refuse. Right now it’s still down South. Sonny’s going through the engine, transmission and other important systems to perform routine maintenance to get it ready for me to drive it up to Virginia. My apartment lease is up at the end of November, and I’m chomping at the bit to be able to move into my own home on wheels!
Well, it’s late and I need sleep. I’m grateful to finally get this blog underway. Sorry for the rambling start! Join me as I document my own travels and talk with other travelers as well. I’ll be sharing my life in an RV and hope to get some great ideas from my readers too. Until next time…grace and peace!
